All I know is it supports DD 5.1 for audio, which is plenty for my setup. |

GhostDoggy | GhostDoggy to SRFireside Member 2006-Nov-22 5:53 am 1920x1080 can be livered in two ways while making sure all the resolution is still present. 1920x1080P, or progressive, shows all 1080 lines progressively (at the same time) for 1/30 second per frame. Conversely, 1920x1080i does something unique different in that is separates the even and odd numbered lines into two groups, and each group is called a 'field'. Both fields are contained in each frame, and when a frame is being transmitted the first field within the frame is displayed, for 1/60 sec, and then the second field is displayed, for 1/60 sec, before the next frame is displayed. So, in 1/30 of a second you get all information contained in 1920x1080, but the transmission bandwidth requirement is halved for 1080i when compared to 1080P. The reason why interlaced video exists is to support limitations on broadcast transmission during the period of specification adoption. BTW, it should be noted that manipulation of video needs to occur in an uncompressed manner, and in a non-interlaced form. This means that for an RGB device like video game consoles and DVD players they need to be progressive in form before than can a) scale (up or down!), and b) transcode to something else like Component video. |

GhostDoggy | GhostDoggy Member 2006-Nov-23 6:40 am said by BonezX: 720p is lower resolution smoother picture, 1080i is prone to tearing. I disagree. Tearing is only a problem if the deinterlacer can't handle the deinterlacing properly. As a result, its a problem with the display's deinterlacer and not the source material itself. This is why junk deinterlacers cost a couple of hundred dollars and the most robust deinterlacers cost several thousand dollars. You get what you pay for. |

LPCM has been passed down SPDIF since it came out. SPDIF can do DTS Encore, which is more than likely what most discs will be. All of it will work over SPDIF, but it will be downsampled to something the receiver can take. |

DTS-HD core is the *same* 1.5Mpbs stream you get with a DTS SD-DVD right now. fact is, your are stuck with legacy audio if all you have is SPDIF. |
